Ross Gload had a two-run, pinch-hit homer off Atlanta closer Rafael Soriano in the ninth Tuesday to give the Florida Marlins a 4-3 win over Atlanta. Garret Anderson had a leadoff home run in the top of the ninth to give Atlanta a 3-2 lead. But Soriano (1-2) walked Cody Ross to start the bottom of the inning, and Gload drove a low 3-1 fastball into the right-center field seats.
Kenshin Kawakami allowed two hits in six innings Friday and was backed up by perfection from the bullpen, pacing Atlanta to an 8-2 inter-league win over Boston. Kawakami (4-6) had received an average of 1.7 runs worth of support in his previous starts, but the Braves produced 12 hits and Garret Anderson had an RBI in four different at bats. The Atlanta starter gave up the only two Boston runs, those coming on a sixth-inning homer by Jason Bay. Peter Moylan, Rafael Soriano and Mike Gonzalez all worked a 1-2-3 inning of relief and they combined to strike out six batters. Nate McLouth hit a solo homer in the first for the Braves and Anderson drew a bases-loaded walk later in the inning.
Chipper Jones and Garret Anderson homered for Atlanta Sunday in the Braves' 9-3 romp over the Arizona Diamondbacks Sunday. Anderson belted a three-run homer, his first home run of the season, and Jones went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs for the Braves, who have won only twice in their last seven games. Yunel Escobar chipped in with three hits and two RBIs in support of winning pitcher Kris Medlen (1-2), who struck out nine and allowed four hits over six innings in his third career start. Max Scherzer (2-4) was shoved around for eight runs on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings. Mark Reynolds and Gerardo Parks each had a pair of hits and an RBI to lead the Arizona attack. Atlanta got to work early against Scherzer with two runs in the first inning on an RBI double by Escobar and a run-scoring single by Jones.
Eric Byrnes hit an 11th-inning RBI single Saturday to rally the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 3-2 win over the Atlanta Braves. Atlanta forged a 2-0 lead on third-inning RBI doubles by Kelly Johnson and Garret Anderson, but run-scoring hits by Ryan Roberts and Chris Young created a 2-2 tie in the bottom
Two-run singles by Garret Anderson and Chipper Jones helped stake Atlanta to an early lead Wednesday and the Braves held on to defeat Florida 8-6. The Braves ended a four-game losing streak, jumping to an 8-3 advantage through 2 1/2 innings.
