By Karin Welzel It's been nearly 40 years since the brook trout was named Pennsylvania's official state fish. Time has not tarnished its popularity -- nor its population. This week, anglers are stocking tackle boxes and tying knots in anticipation of the first day of the 2008 trout season.
BLACKTON RESERVOIR AVERAGED three fish per visit with M Urwin taking the best trout of the week at 41b. Best catch was by Mel Gill with eight fish for 161b.

By David Carrick Salmon angler of the week was Michael Rowson from Whitley Bay as he landed the first reported fish of the season from the North Tyne. Rowson was fishing on the prime North Tyne Chesters beat and landed a cracking 20lb fresh-run salmon on a Cascade Fly.
