Heart and Soul Community Services needs your help! The charitable group is asking for help in providing 700 children with new shoes and backpacks. Their "Touch of Love" Back to School Giveaway takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Sunkist Elementary School, 935 Mayland Ave.
Hacienda Heights families took a spin on several carnival rides during the 42nd annual Early California Days festival at St. John Vianney Catholic Church last weekend. Community members, above, got to bid on many silent auction items. The festival featured rides, games, food and entertainment.

Congratulations to Barbara Ann Hickey on receiving an honorable mention in the 26th annual BRAVO Award competition. She is a third- grade teacher at Van Wig Elementary School in La Puente. Hickey was one of 24 teachers and 16 schools honored for work in the visual and performing arts.
The Whittier Guild of Childrens Hospital Los Angeles will present the hospital with a check for $33,000 tomorrow, Jan. 25 when they tour the facilities. The money was raised from patron donations and a major benefit held in October.
