About 600 Verizon telephone customers lost service in the East End of Charleston sometime Saturday after underground cables were damaged, a spokesman said. Repairs were expected to start today but may not be completed until Thursday, Verizon spokesman Harry Mitchell said Sunday.

Verizon crews started trying to restore telephone service to about 600 customers. Service was lost to the customers in the East End of Charleston because of damaged underground cables.
