Ervin Santana pitched a shutout and Kendry Morales had a home run and three RBI Monday when the Los Angeles Angels beat Texas 11-0 to clinch the AL West title. Santana (8-8) went the distance, scattering seven hits, walking one and striking out three for the Angels, who won their third straight division title. Morales drove in two runs with his 33rd home run of the season in the first inning, when the Angels scored three runs.
Fernando Perez drove in the game-winning run Sunday with a suicide squeeze bunt, leading the Tampa Bay Rays to a 7-6 win over Texas. The bunt knocked in Evan Longoria with one out in the top of the ninth.
Marlon Byrd's two homers and five RBI Saturday led Texas to a 15-3 rout of Tampa Bay. He hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth and his grand slam started an 11-run fifth. Ian Kinsler reached 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases for the first time in his four-year career Friday, leading Texas to an 8-3 victory over Tampa Bay. Kinsler already had 30 steals going into Friday's game and he climbed to the 30-homer plateau with a three-run shot in the eighth. Texas kept its slim playoff hopes alive, after starting the evening's action seven games behind the Los Angeles Angels in the American League West and eight games behind Boston in the wild-card race. Kinsler put Texas in front for good at 4-3 in the fourth inning when he scored from third on a double play grounder off the bat of Ivan Rodriguez. Derek Holland (8-12) got the victory despite letting an early 3-0 lead get away.
Chris Davis had a three-run home run and four RBI Tuesday to lead the Texas Rangers to a 10-5 win and a doubleheader sweep over Cleveland. Davis had three hits as part of an 18- hit attack for the Rangers, who trail the first-place Los Angeles Angels by 4 1/2 games in the AL West, and pulled within two games of Boston in the AL wild-card chase.
