Jake Peavy allowed two hits over eight innings Friday and the Chicago White Sox slowed Detroit's bid for a division title by downing the Tigers 8-0. The Tigers began the night's action with only a two-game lead over Minnesota in the chase for the American League Central championship and failed to put up a fight against a pitcher who had his second straight outstanding start. In his final appearance of the season, Peavy (9-6) struck out five and walked two while throwing 105 pitches.

The Tigers and Twins will play four times in Detroit beginning next Monday. Chicago acquired Peavy (8-6) from San Diego in July in hopes he could ignite a late rush to the division title.
