The Texas Rangers got catcher Ivan Rodriguez from the Houston Astros Tuesday in exchange for two minor leaguers. Rodriguez, 37, batted .251 with eight homers and 34 RBI in 93 games as Houston's starting catcher this year.
Michael Young had two hits -- one a solo homer -- Thursday, leading the Texas Rangers to a 6-4 win over Oakland. His 18th homer came in the third inning, and his second RBI of the game came on a fifth-inning single. Hank Blalock hit a solo homer. David Murphy and Andruw Jones had two hits and one RBI apiece, while Marlon Byrd added one RBI for the Rangers, who avoided a three-game sweep. Jarrod Saltalamacchia's two-run homer in the seventh inning Sunday snapped a tie and delivered the Texas Rangers a 4-2 win over Seattle. The Rangers got solo homers from David Murphy in the first and Michael Young in the sixth. Seattle scored two runs in the sixth -- one on a bases-loaded ground out by Russell Branyan and the second on a single by Jose Lopez. Starter Scott Feldman (10-4) went seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts for the Rangers, who took three out of four from the Mariners in the weekend series and have won nine of 13 against Seattle this season. The Texas Rangers announced Friday that pitcher Vicente Padilla has been diagnosed with H1N1, widely known as swine flu. Padilla, however, is expected to make his next scheduled start Tuesday against Detroit.
