Veteran Dallas Mavericks point guard Jason Kidd will stick with the NBA club for three more years, The Dallas Morning News reported Monday. The 36-year-old free agent reportedly had been considering moving on, with the New York Knicks said to be in contention for his services. Team owner Mark Cuban said the contract will be worth more than $25 million, the Morning News said. The Mavericks went 50-32 in Kidd's first full season with the team since being acquired from the New Jersey Nets.
Josh Howard's 28 points with four rebounds led Dallas to a 99-90 NBA Playoff victory over San Antonio and a 3-1 lead in their Western Conference quarterfinal. The Mavericks trailed 55-51 at the break but went up 80-71 after three quarters and led 87-84 with 6:44 left in the contest. Jason Kidd scored 17 points with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Tony Parker had 38 points -- 27 in the first half -- and the San Antonio Spurs routed Dallas 105-84 to even their Western Conference quarterfinal series at 1-1. Parker was 16-of-22 from the field and handed out eight assists.
Orlando's Dwight Howard and Dallas's Jason Kidd were selected the NBA players of the week, the league announced Monday. Howard, for the second consecutive week, was the player of the week for the Eastern Conference while Kidd took the Western Conference award for games played March 30-April 5. Howard averaged 23.7 points, 15.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks last week while the Magic was going 3-1.
Dirk Nowitzki scored 28 points and Jason Kidd had 19 points and 20 assists Sunday, leading the Dallas Mavericks to a 140-116 thrashing of the Phoenix Suns. Kidd's assists raised his career total to 10,142.
