Daisuke Matsuzaka continued his strong conclusion to the regular season Friday with a six-inning effort that helped bring Boston a 6-2 win over Cleveland. After losing six consecutive games, the Red Sox won their second straight while tuning up for next week's opening-round playoff series against the Los Angeles Angels. Matsuzaka (4-6) struggled throughout much of the season with injuries, but he has won four of his last five starts.

Jhonny Peralta's two RBI Friday keyed Cleveland's 5-2 win over Minnesota. He drove in one run with a double in the bottom of the third inning and another with a single in the seventh. Travis Hafner and Michael Brantley also drove in runs and one scored on Orlando Cabrera's third-inning throwing error -- one of four Twins errors. Jamey Carroll had three of the nine hits for the Indians, who stopped their four-game losing streak. Winner Jeremy Sowers (6-9) gave up two runs and six hits in six innings.

Jeremy Sowers pitched seven scoreless innings and Jhonny Peralta had three RBI Saturday to lead the Cleveland Indians to a 10-3 victory over Seattle. Chris Gimenez, Ryan Garko and Asdrubal Cabrera each hit a two-run homer for Cleveland, which has won three games in a row for the first time since May 25-28. Sowers (3-7), recalled from Triple-A prior to the game, allowed just four hits and two walks. Franklin Gutierrez was 2-for-3 with a walk for the Mariners, who have lost three of five. Erik Bedard (5-3), who lasted only three innings, is winless in four starts since coming off the disabled list. Chris Jakubauskas relieved Bedard in the fourth and gave up a two-run homer to Gimenez.
