Jermaine Dye had three hits Wednesday and drove in a run with each of them, pushing the Chicago White Sox past Cleveland 5-1. The White Sox have won nine times in 11 outings and stayed two games behind division-leading Detroit in the American League Central. Jose Contreras (4-7) struck out a season-best nine batters over 6 1/3 to get the win.

Miguel Olivo whacked a two-run home run for Kansas City Sunday, helping the Royals down the Chicago White Sox 6-3. David DeJesus and Willie Bloomquist each contributed three hits and an RBI for Kansas City. Brian Bannister (6-6) got his first win in his last four starts, allowing two runs and five hits

Chicago White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye and New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera were named Monday American League co-Players of the Week. Dye led the major leagues with a .500 average (12-for-24) and 25 total bases this past week. He also had three home runs and six runs batted in.

Hiroki Kuroda retired 16 straight and struck out nine in 8 2/3 innings Tuesday to pitch the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 5-2 win over the Chicago White Sox. Kuroda (2-3) en route to a complete game before Alexei Ramirez singled with two outs in the ninth, moved to second on defensive indifference and scored on Jermaine Dye's single.
