Alex Rodriguez drove in four runs Friday, two of them with a third-inning homer, pacing the New York Yankees to a 9-5 victory over Boston. The teams have two games remaining in their weekend series and if the Yankees win both of them, they will claim the American League East title.

Mike Napoli's throwing error on a pick-off attempt sparked a two-run eighth inning for the New York Yankees in a 5-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels. Mark Teixeira had a triple and two RBI for the Yankees. Robinson Cano and Nick Swisher both drove in runs in the win.

Roy Halladay's complete-game, one-hit shutout Friday carried the Toronto Blue Jays in a 6-0 win over the New York Yankees. Halladay (14-8) chased a perfect game into the top of the fifth and a no-hitter into the sixth. He threw 111 pitches, giving up only Ramiro Pena's one-out, sixth-inning double, with three walks and nine strikeouts. Halladay did not pitch more than six innings in any of his previous three starts, all losses. Aaron Hill and Joe Inglett led Toronto with two RBI apiece.

Josh Hamilton highlighted a five-run fourth that gave Texas the lead Friday and the Rangers held on for a wild 10-9 win over the New York Yankees. Texas took a five-run advantage into the bottom of the ninth, but the Yankees scored four times and had runners on first and second with nobody out. Closer Frank Francisco, however, got Nick Swisher to pop out on a bunt attempt and Melky Cabrera then lined into a double play to end New York's rally. Texas stayed within 1 ½ games of Boston for the lead in the American League wild-card race. New York took a 4-0 lead in the first, with Jorge Posada hitting a two-run homer.
