Prince Fielder and Jody Gerut accounted for all the Milwaukee runs with homers Wednesday and the Brewers edged the Chicago Cubs 3-2. Fielder hit a two-run shot in the fourth and Gerut gave the Brewers a 3-1 lead with his homer in the sixth. It was the 42nd homer of the year for Fielder, leaving him eight short of the career high he set two years ago. Bobby Scales doubled home Jeff Baker with nobody out in the seventh to bring the Cubs within one, but David Weathers retired the next three batters to escape the jam. Claudio Vargas protected the lead by working a perfect eighth inning and Trevor Hoffman worked around a one-out single in the ninth to collect his 35th save. Chris Narveson (2-0) got the win by allowing a run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings.
