Joni Pitkanen scored the game-winner early in the third period Saturday when the Carolina Hurricanes recorded a 4-1 win over the Washington Capitals. Carolina has won eight straight on home ice. Pitkanen's seventh goal this season snapped a 1-1 tie at 4:42 of the third.

Cam Ward stopped 35 shots Monday to post his second shutout of the season and lead the Carolina Hurricanes to a 2-0 victory over Toronto. Joe Corvo and Chad LaRose scored for the Hurricanes, who ended a five-game losing streak. Vesa Toskala made 32 saves for the Maple Leafs, who have lost six of their last seven games. Carolina got both of its goals in the second period.

Sergei Samsonov had a hand in all of Carolina's goals Wednesday, propelling the Hurricanes to a 3-1 victory over Atlanta. Samsonov scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season and assisted on Joe Corvo's score in the third period that gave Carolina some insurance en route to its third win in five games. Cam Ward needed to block just 20 shots for the victory. Atlanta lost its fourth straight, getting a goal from Ilya Kovlachuk in the first period.

Joe Corvo avoided two defenders and scored a spectacular goal with 44 seconds left in overtime Thursday, giving Carolina a 2-1 win over Florida. The Hurricanes won their second straight, thanks to a tremendous effort from Corvo.
