News - Joffrey Lupul
The Philadelphia Flyers have signed defenseman Chris Pronger to a multi-year contract extension, the Cherry Hill (N.J.) Courier-Post said. No dollar figures were disclosed by the team, but the newspaper was one of several media outlets reporting that Pronger, 34, will receive $35 million over seven years. The second overall pick of the 1993 NHL draft by Hartford was acquired from Anaheim in June with prospect Ryan Dingle for forward Joffrey Lupul, defenseman Luca Sbisa, two first-round draft picks and a conditional third-round selection. Last season, Pronger scored 48 points -- 11 goals, 37 assists -- for the Ducks. In 1,022 games, he has compiled 606 points -- 142 goals and 464 assists. He won a Stanley Cup in 2007 with Anaheim and also has played for Edmonton and St.
The New York Islanders made high-scoring forward John Tavares the first pick in the 2009 NHL draft Friday. Tavares had been the NHL's scouting system's top-ranked player all year, having produced 58 goals and 104 points last season for the London Knights in the Ontario Hockey League.
Simon Gagne had a goal and an assist and Martin Biron stopped 30 shots Saturday to key the Philadelphia Flyers' 3-2 win over the New York Islanders. Joffrey Lupul and Mike Knuble also scored for Philadelphia, which will close out its regular season Sunday at home against the New York Rangers.
Jeff Carter scored early in the third period Tuesday, lifting the Philadelphia Flyers a 2-1 victory over the Florida Panthers. Joffrey Lupul scored the other goal for the Flyers, who earned their third trip to the post-season in the last four seasons.
Mike Richards' goal in the second round of a shootout Saturday rallied the Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-3 win over the New York Islanders. The Islanders blew a two-goal lead in the third period when Philadelphia scored three times. Philadelphia's Joffrey Lupul scored twice and Scott Hartnell once in regulation.
