Amateur Shane Lowry of Ireland parred the third playoff hole Sunday and won the European Tour's Irish Open over England's Robert Rock. Lowry and Rock each closed with a 1-under-par 71 for a total of 17-under 271 in regulation play. Both players parred the first extra hole and birdied the second.

His opening round included an eagle, eight birdies and a bogey at the par-4 11th hole. The 63 bettered the single-round course record at the par 72 County Louth Golf Club by one stroke. Swedes Mikael Lundberg and Johan Edfors carded 6-under-par 66s Thursday to share the lead in the incomplete first round of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. Hailstorms caused a lengthy delay that left some players on the course when play in the European Tour event was suspended for the day. Among others who completed their rounds, Oliver Fisher, Jarmo Sandelin and Francesco Molinari were at 67 and defending champion Martin Kaymer was in a group at 68.
