PRINCETON, N.J., May 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Church & Dwight Co., Inc., the maker of OxiClean®, is teaming up with Laura Posada, sports mom and wife of famed baseball player Jorge Posada, to entice Americans to share why their hometown sports league needs help cleaning up their ball game.
Francisco Cervelli singled in Brett Gardner from third with one out in the ninth inning Wednesday, giving the New York Yankees a 5-4 win over Toronto. The Yankees faced a 4-2 deficit going into the eighth, but Hideki Matsui tied it in that inning with a two-run homer and New York won in the ninth against Jason Frasor. Frasor (6-3) gave up a lead-off single to Gardner in the ninth and Gardner stole second base.
Yankees catcher Jorge Posada and Toronto pitcher Jesse Carlson received three-game suspensions Wednesday for their parts in a benches-clearing incident. During Tuesday's 10-4 Toronto rout, Posada elbowed Carlson after he scored on Brett Gardner's double in the bottom of the eighth. During the at-bat, Carlson threw behind Posada, continuing a pattern of seemingly errant pitches by both clubs. Carlson later said something Posada didn't like, and when Posada ran towards him, both benches cleared. No punches were thrown, but in the pile of bodies, Carlson suffered a knot on his forehead. I'm not upset with it, Manager Cito Gaston said on the Blue Jays' Web site.
A brawl between Yankees and Blue Jays players cleared the benches Tuesday before Toronto went on to win 10-4. New York's Mark Melancon hit Aaron Hill in the back with a pitch in the eighth inning.
