The Kansas City Royals have lost veteran outfielder Jose Guillen for as long as eight weeks because of a freak right knee injury, the team said Friday. Guillen was injured before his first at-bat in Wednesday's 9-6 loss to the Los Angeles Angels.
Alberto Callaspo hit a grand slam Wednesday and Gil Meche teamed with two relievers on a four-hitter, carrying Kansas City to a 9-0 drubbing of Cleveland. Callaspo's home run finished off a power assault that helped the Royals snap a two-game skid.
Matt Palmer and three relievers held Kansas City to four hits Friday and the Los Angeles Angels downed Kansas City 4-1 to end the Royals' six-game win streak. Palmer (3-0) gave up a run on two hits over 5 1/3 innings and then got relief help from Darren Oliver, Jose Arredondo and Brian Fuentes.
