Josh Geer gave up one run and five hits in 6 2/3 innings Saturday, leading the streaking San Diego Padres to a 3-1 victory against the Chicago Cubs. His effort helped San Diego record its eighth straight win. Geer (1-1) threw 107 pitches, did not walk a batter and struck out seven. Reliever Edward Mujica worked the ninth to earn his first career save. Brian Giles led San Diego with a two-run double in the fourth inning.

Raul Ibanez launched a home run in the bottom of the ninth Sunday to complete the Philadelphia Phillies' 5-4 come-from-behind win over the San Diego Padres. Ibanez followed a bloop single by Ryan Howard by crushing a 2-0 change-up off Edwin Moreno (0-1) into the right-field seats that erased visiting San Diego's 4-3 lead. Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley also homered for the Phillies to secure the win for Clay Condrey (2-0), who pitched a scoreless ninth in relief of starter Chan Ho Park. Adrian Gonzales hit a solo home run for San Diego and Kevin Kouzmanoff had three hits as the Padres' three-game winning streak came to an end. San Diego had been in command early behind starter Josh Geer, who give up two runs, one of which was unearned, on six hits over seven innings. The Padres put three runs on the board in the third when Everth Cabrera bunted his way on base and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Geer.
