Roger Levesque's goal in the 36th minute Saturday gave Seattle a 1-0 Major League Soccer win at Columbus. Levesque scored his first goal (unassisted) when Crew goalkeeper Will Hesmer failed to clear his initial miss. Jhon Kennedy Hurtado also took shots on goal, while goalkeeper Kasey Keller made two saves for the Sounders (10-7-11), who continue a battle for a playoff berth in their inaugural MLS season. Their three points put them into a tie with Chivas USA for third in the Western Conference. Chivas won 2-0 at D.C.
Chivas USA goalkeeper Zach Thornton had his second straight shutout and 10th this season Saturday in a 0-0 draw with the Seattle Sounders. Kasey Keller had the shutout for Seattle. Thornton didn't make a single save in a win last week against New England. Chivas (11-9-4) remained one point behind Seattle (9-6-11) in the West with two fewer matches played.
Shalrie Joseph scored in the 21st minute Thursday and Matt Reis made the goal stand up, giving the New England Revolution a 1-0 MLS win over Seattle. The Revolution moved within a point of D.C.
Tim Howard made seven saves in regulation Wednesday and then stopped three penalty kicks to bring Everton a 4-3, shootout victory over the MLS All-Stars. The game was decided in a shootout after being tied at the end of regulation 1-1. It was the first time in six games since Major League Soccer began using the current All-Star Game format that the stars of the American league have lost to an international opponent. Howard is the current United States national team goalkeeper, but he also plays with Everton and was the key to the outcome. He stopped penalty kick efforts by Brad Davis, Davy Arnaud and Freddie Ljunberg.
Nate Jaqua and Fredy Montero both figured in all the goals Sunday in a 3-0 Seattle Sounders FC win over the Colorado Rapids. Jaqua had an assist when Montero scored the first Sounders goal midway through the first half, and then scored twice in the second half to help Seattle goalkeeper Kasey Keller post his fifth shutout.
