Pedro Feliz hit Philadelphia's 11th grand slam of the season Tuesday in a 7-4 victory over the Houston Astros. Feliz hit his second grand slam of the season and seventh of his career for the Phillies, whose magic number to win the NL East was reduced to one.
Joey Votto scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the seventh Wednesday and Cincinnati overcame a Houston home run barrage to down the Astros 6-5. All Houston's runs came on solo homers, which gave the Astros a 5-4 lead through five innings. Drew Stubbs then singled home Wladimir Balentien with the tying run in the sixth and the Reds took the lead in the seventh, thanks to a gift from Jeff Fulchino. Votto led off the seventh with a single and moved to third on a base hit by Brandon Phillips. Fulchino then came in to relieve Wesley Wright and promptly uncorked the wild pitch that brought home what turned out to be the winning run. Jared Burton (1-0) got the victory as the third of five Cincinnati pitchers.
Paul Janish's third double of the game drove in the winning run in the seventh inning Tuesday to give Cincinnati a 5-4 win over Houston. Janish also scored two runs and Scott Rolen had two RBI and Drew Stubbs a home run for the Reds. Kaz Matsui homered and had two RBI and two runs scored for the Astros, who have lost three straight games.
Miguel Tejada's two-run single with one out in the ninth inning Wednesday gave the Houston Astros a dramatic 2-1 decision over Atlanta. Atlanta starter Tommy Hanson shut down Houston on five hits over eight innings but closer Rafael Soriano (1-5) labored over 20 pitches while giving up the lead. After Michael Bourn struck out to open the ninth, Kazuo Matsui singled to right and went to third on Lance Berkman's double.
