By Joe Sweeney It's been about a decade since America's last infatuation with radio-friendly, Latin-tinged pop songs. And as the stars of that era -- Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Enrique Iglesias, Marc Anthony, etc.
While mainstream Latin pop has enjoyed a resurgence of late, particularly through a flurry of Mexican acts such as RBD and Camila, and urban Latino remains strong (Wisin and Yandel, Angel and Khris are still high on the charts), the middle ground of Latin alterna-pop is still flourishing.
It's been nine years since Ricky Martin did that rousing, carnivalesque version of "La Copa de la Vida" at the Grammy Awards, setting off the Latin pop explosion.
