Laynce Nix hit the first grand slam of his career Wednesday, pacing Cincinnati to a 6-1 victory over St. Louis. The Cardinals lost their third in a row and fell two games behind Philadelphia in the race for the second-best record in the National League.

Home runs by Joey Votto and Laynce Nix in the 13th inning Tuesday allowed the Cincinnati Reds to survive a blown five-run lead and defeat Milwaukee 8-6. The Reds took a 6-1 lead into the ninth inning, but a fielding error by pitcher Jared Burton opened the door to a huge Milwaukee comeback. Milwaukee scored the tying run in the ninth on a base hit by Casey McGehee and the Brewers still had the bases loaded with only one away.

Laynce Nix had three hits and three RBI for the Cincinnati Reds in Tuesday's 7-2 rain-delayed victory over the Atlanta Braves. Two of Nix's RBI came as the Reds scored four times in the bottom of the eighth inning to blow open the contest, which was delayed twice for nearly an hour and a half in the third inning. Daniel Ray Herrera (1-2) picked up the win with three scoreless innings in relief of Aaron Harang.

Colorado's Ian Stewart, who hit four home runs last week, was chosen the National League player of the week Monday. Stewart's four home runs led the major leagues in games played June 1-7. He hit two of the homers Saturday in a game at St. Louis. He hit .480 for the week with 12 hits.
