Qantas Airways has announced that Alan Joyce, CEO of its subsidiary airline Jetstar, would become CEO of the company upon the retirement of Geoff Dixon. Mr Joyce has 20 years of experience in the aviation industry. He was appointed CEO of Jetstar in October 2003.

Australian airline Qantas has appointed Richard Goodmanson and Barbara Ward to its board of directors. Mr Goodmanson has served as executive vice president and COO of Du Pont since May 1999. From 1996 to 1999, he was president and CEO of America West Airlines.

Commodity prices are by nature volatile. No one knows this better than Leigh Clifford, who stepped down as chief executive of the mineral and mining company Rio Tinto on May 1.

By Daily Mail, London Dec. 6--It all change at the top of the world's second largest miner. Anglo-Aussie giant Rio Tinto has appointed insider Tom Albanese as chief executive, replacing Leigh Clifford, who is retiring in May after 37 years with the group.

RIO Tinto's thrid-quarter iron ore production was 18% above the same period last year as it shipped record volumes from its Western Australian operations to help supply steel makers in China.
