By Robert Verkaik LAW EDITOR * NHS chiefs could face jail if they ignore warnings to cut risk of superbug infections DIRECTORS OF hospitals where patients have died from superbug infections because of failures by senior management will be prosecuted under new manslaughter laws, ministers have told NHS chiefs.

HOSPITAL-acquired infections (HAIs) continue to take a toll in Scotland. A ward at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley has been closed to new admissions after the clostridium difficile (C Diff) bacterium contributed to the death of a patient last week and infections in seven others.

PENSIONER Doreen Ford was one of more than 90 patients who died after contracting C.diff during Britain's worst ever outbreak. She caught the bug at Maidstone Hospital two years ago while having chemotherapy for her breast cancer.

ANOTHER patient at a superbug-hit Scots hospital has died. The victim was infected with clostridium difficile, known as C diff, although health chiefs said it wasn't the main cause of death. The Vale of Leven Hospital patient has not been named.
