CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The next five years will be marked by an increase in competition in Morocco's fixed and mobile markets, while adoption of 3G+ handsets is already witnessing solid growth, according to a new report from Pyramid Research (www.pyr.com).
According to Al-Hayat newspaper (May 2, 2008), the Casablanca Stock Exchange Authority reported that Maroc Telecom, which is Morocco's leading operator with eight million mobile subscribers and a rapidly expanding fixed-line customer base of 1.35 million, had posted MD 8 billion net profits in 2007, which is the highest profit volume recorded by a single company in the bourse history.
According to Al-Hayat newspaper (February 8, 2008), the monthly report issued by the Morocco National Agency for the Regulation of Telecommunications (ANRT) shows that Moroc Telcom controlled 66% of the total number of mobile phone lines in Morocco in 2007, a decrease of 0.5%.
Vivendi said Thursday that it had agreed to buy a 29.5 percent stake of the telecommunications operator Neuf Cegetel, giving it a controlling interest and creating a major force in an already hypercompetitive French broadband market.
