News - Martín Prado
Martin Prado drove in three runs Tuesday in Atlanta's 9-2 romp over the San Diego Padres. Prado's solo home run in the fifth inning proved to the game winner, but the Braves tacked on four runs in the sixth to nail down just their second win in their last seven games. Atlanta out-hit San Diego 17-4, while Javier Vazquez (9-7) picked up the win, giving up two runs on six strikeouts, four hits and two walks over seven innings. Tim Stauffer (1-3) took the loss with three runs on eight hits over five innings. Will Venable homered for the Padres, who had won six of seven coming into the game.
Atlanta Braves infielder Martin Prado's prowess at the plate produced his first National League Player of the Week award Monday. In six games during the week ending Sunday, Prado had 15 hits -- eight of them doubles -- for a .577 average, .621 on-base percentage and 1,000 slugging percent. He also scored eight times. Prado, 25, who has seen his time in the field divided between first, second and third base, this season is hitting .329 with four homers, 15 RBI and 23 runs scored. Also considered for the weekly NL honor were Arizona's Dan Haren (2-0, 1.38 ERA, 15 SO), Chicago Cub Derrek Lee (.679 SLG, 4 HR, 12 RBI), Cincinnati's Joey Votto (.440, 1 HR, 4 RBI) and Florida's Ricky Nolasco (2-0, 1.13 ERA, 20 SO).
The Atlanta Braves bounced back from two consecutive shutout losses at Pittsburgh by bombing the Pirates 11-1 Sunday. David Ross and Martin Prado each had a three-run homer for the Braves and Jeff Rancoeur drove in another three runs with a 2-for-5 day that snapped Atlanta's five-game losing streak. Atlanta had lost 3-0 in Pittsburgh Friday and 10-0 Saturday. Javier Vasquez (1-1) held the Pirates scoreless en route to the win.
