Brendan Morrison's two power-play goals Tuesday carried the Dallas Stars past the Los Angeles Kings 3-2. The win at Staples Center kept the Stars' faint playoff hopes alive by snapping a seven-game winless streak. Jack Johnson and Anze Kopitar scored for the host Kings, who are also struggling to stay in the Stanley Cup race. Jonathan Quick allowed three goals on 35 shots for the Kings.
Cory Stillman led the Florida Panthers to a 6-3 win over the Dallas Stars Saturday with a goal and two assists. Stillman's 16th goal this season tied the game 1-1 at 8:04 of the second period and he assisted on goals by Nathan Horton, also in the second, and Jay Bouwmeester (power play) in the third. Bouwmeester was one of four Florida players with a goal and an assist. Kamil Kreps also scored once, and Craig Anderson stopped 32-of-35 shots for the Panthers, who have won two in a row after losing seven of eight.
Justin Williams scored in the third round of the shootout Thursday on a goal that needed an instant replay review to give Los Angeles a 1-0 victory over Dallas. The Kings' Jonathan Quick and the Stars' Marty Turco battled to a scoreless tie through regulation and overtime, but both goalies gave up a score in the first two rounds of the shootout. Williams then fired a wrister that Turco stopped, but the goaltender's momentum carried him into the net with the puck.
Ryan Kesler scored twice and Roberto Luongo made 35 saves Tuesday to give the Vancouver Canucks a 5-2 win over the Dallas Stars. Henrik Sedin also scored twice and his brother Daniel Sedin had a goal and an assist for the Canucks, who have won five of their last six games. Vancouver is tied with Chicago for the fourth playoff seed in the Western Conference.
