Max Scherzer equaled his longest outing of the season Wednesday and Brandon Allen hit a two-run homer in lifting Arizona past the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-1. Scherzer (9-8) took a shutout into the eighth and was lifted with two out in the inning when Manny Ramirez singled in Juan Pierre from second. Esmerling Vasquez relieved Scherzer and, with runners on first and second, got Matt Kemp to line out to left to end the inning.

Scherzer (7-6) notched the win with 6 2/3 innings in which he allowed two runs on eight hits and fanned eight. Jeff Francoeur had a leadoff home run in the second inning for the Mets, who lost for the eighth time in their last 10 games. Livan Hernandez (7-7) lasted only four innings in the start, giving up five runs on six hits and three walks.
