DES MOINES, Iowa, May 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The state of Iowa is continuing its tradition of leadership in wind energy and showcasing the state's forward-looking strategy to develop alternative energy sources for the economy of the future at the American Wind Energy Association's (AWEA) 2011 WINDPOWER Conference and Exhibition.
Warren Buffett has taken a green leap forward. Des Moines-based MidAmerican Energy, controlled by Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway (BRKA), plans to pay about $231 million for a 10% stake in Chinese auto and battery maker BYD Co. which expects to roll out fully electric cars before the end of next year.
The MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company has reached a tentative agreement with US-based electricity supplier Constellation Energy to purchase all of the outstanding shares for a cash consideration of approximately $4.7 billion or $26.5 per share.
French clean energy firm EDF Energies Nouvelles's US subsidiary, enXco, has signed an agreement with MidAmerican Energy to build the Walnut wind farm in Iowa. This 100.5MW project is due to be completed in late 2008.
