The Kansas City Royals have lost veteran outfielder Jose Guillen for as long as eight weeks because of a freak right knee injury, the team said Friday. Guillen was injured before his first at-bat in Wednesday's 9-6 loss to the Los Angeles Angels.

Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria Monday was named the American League Player of the Week.

Zack Greinke and two relievers combined on a three-hitter Wednesday, lifting Kansas City to a 2-0 decision over the Chicago White Sox. Greinke (1-0) allowed the three hits and struck out seven over six innings.
