News - Mike Knuble
The Washington Capitals have signed high-scoring, free-agent right wing Mike Knuble to a two-year contract. No monetary figure was disclosed after Wednesday's surprise deal at the onset of the league's off-season, free-agent signing period, but the Delaware Daily Times reported he will receive $5.6 million. We just felt we needed someone else, a player on (the top) line in particular with (left wing Alex) Ovechkin, the reigning two-time NHL MVP and (center Nicklas) Backstrom, that will go to the net, General Manager George McPhee told the Washington Post.
Simon Gagne had a goal and an assist and Martin Biron stopped 30 shots Saturday to key the Philadelphia Flyers' 3-2 win over the New York Islanders. Joffrey Lupul and Mike Knuble also scored for Philadelphia, which will close out its regular season Sunday at home against the New York Rangers.
Simon Gagne had a goal and two assists Monday to pace the Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils. Danny Briere had a goal and an assist and Jeff Carter and Mike Knuble each scored for the Flyers, who have won three straight.
Alex Ovechkin's 48th goal of the season put Washington in front in the second period Thursday and the Capitals held on to down Philadelphia 2-1. Washington won its fifth straight road game, getting 35 saves from Jose Theodore.
Simon Gagne scored two goals and set up another Tuesday and Philadelphia used a three-goal third period to beat Boston 4-2. Mike Knuble had a goal and two assists, and Scottie Upshall also scored for the Flyers, who won for the sixth time in their last nine games.
