Forward Shelden Williams is making the Boston Celtics his fourth NBA team in four seasons, The Boston Globe reported Monday. The newspaper said the club has reached an agreement with Williams on a one-year contract.
Dwyane Wade, playing through back spasms, scored 41 points Friday and sent the Miami Heat storming past Atlanta 98-72 to force a Game 7 in their playoff series. The final game of the series will be played Sunday in Atlanta, the winner earning a meeting with top-seeded Cleveland in the second round. Atlanta had won the two previous games to give itself a chance to close out the Heat, but got off to a poor start Friday and could not make a game of it in the second half. Michael Beasley added 22 points and 15 rebounds for Miami.
Zaza Pachulia had 12 points and 18 rebounds Monday when Atlanta won its first road playoff game since 1997 by beating Miami, 81-71. Joe Johnson contributed 15 points, Al Horford 13 and Mike Bibby, Marvin Williams and Zaza Pachulia 10 each for the Hawks. Miami star Dwyane Wade had 19 points but also committed eight turnovers.
Joe Johnson scored 30 points Wednesday and Atlanta pulled away late to defeat Milwaukee 113-105. The Hawks have virtually wrapped up a home-court edge in the opening round of the playoffs. Atlanta, which is in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, has a 3 1/2-game lead over Miami.
