Jake Fox hit a grand slam in a six-run fifth inning Saturday to lead the Chicago Cubs in an 11-4 victory over the New York Mets. Fox also had an RBI double and Milton Bradley had three hits, two runs and an RBI hits for the Cubs, who have won four of their last six games.
Kosuke Fukudome and Ryan Theriot drove in four runs each Thursday in the Chicago Cubs' 12-3 rout of Houston. Fukodome hit a two-run single in the second, an RBI double in the third and an RBI triple in the seventh. Theriot hit a two-run double in the second and knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, and Fukudome scored on a Theriot groundout in the seventh. Jake Fox and Milton Bradley hit back-to-back third-inning solo homers.
Alfonso Soriano hit a key three-run homer Saturday, boosting the Chicago Cubs to a 6-5 win over Washington. Soriano's 15th homer this season gave Chicago a 5-4 lead with one out in the sixth.
Pinch-hitter Micah Hoffpauir singled in Derrek Lee from third with one out in the 11th inning Wednesday, giving the Chicago Cubs a 3-2 win over Atlanta. The Braves rallied from a two-run deficit to tie the game in the seventh, but the Cubs finally broke through against Jeff Bennett and Eric O'Flaherty in the 11th. Lee opened the inning by drawing a walk off Bennett (2-3) and moved to second on Mike Fontenot's fly ball to left that was caught in foul territory. Reed Johnson then singled, with Lee holding at third.
The Chicago Cubs snapped an eight-game losing streak Tuesday by knocking off Pittsburgh 6-1 in a rain-shortened game at Wrigley Field. Micah Hoffpauir drove in a pair of runs and Sean Marshall (3-3) gave up four hits and struck out six over five innings in game that was called after six innings with the Pirates batting in the downpour. Just before the heavens opened up, the Cubs put three runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth to close out the scoring against Pirates starter Ian Snell (1-6), who was pushed around for six runs on eight hits over five innings.
