By Tim Christie, The Register-Guard, Eugene, Ore. May 9--Biologists and chemists have been working inside Molecular Probes' new $19 million research and development building since March, and on Monday, they had a little lab-warming party.
Jul. 27--Months after turning down a takeover offer, a Camarillo company that makes products used in pharmaceutical and biomedical research has agreed to a roughly $130 million buyout from another company. BioSource International Inc. announced Tuesday that Invitrogen Corp.
Jan. 14--In July, when California-based bio-sciences firm Invitrogen announced that it would buy Eugene-based Molecular Probes, Invitrogen's CEO said he wanted to keep Eugene as "a center of excellence" -- and to expand it. Invitrogen appears to be wasting no time in doing that.
Oct. 13--After the excitement of announcing in July that it would buy Eugene's Molecular Probes, Invitrogen now is tackling the drudge work of actually combining the two biosciences companies.
