Science fiction superfan Forrest Ackerman, founder of the influential U.S. magazine Famous Monsters of Filmland, has died at 92, a friend says.

The plot of Stephen King's "Cell" _ cell phones scrambling human brains like a skilletful of eggs _ probably came as no surprise to Daniel Dinello, Chicago-based filmmaker and film studies professor at Columbia College Chicago.
