By Josh Rabe, The Daily Oklahoman Jul. 20--SOUTH COFFEYVILLE -- Residents here are taking advantage of a stretch of dry weather to begin cleaning up from flooding that left the town under water, contaminated with crude oil and raw sewage.
Water tests in the Verdigris River and Oologah Lake show no signs of the oil. COFFEYVILLE, Kan. -- The refinery involved in a 42,000-gallon spill of crude oil into the Verdigris River, which flows into Oklahoma, has reached an agreement with the EPA to clean up the spill.
Swollen rivers in northeastern Oklahoma continued to recede Friday, allowing residents and officials to begin assessing damage from floodwaters.
The Department of Environmental Quality issued a precautionary boil order Wednesday for some northern Oklahoma residents whose water supply might be affected by a massive oil spill from a Kansas refinery.
