News - Ordina Open
Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn won the women's Ordina Open Saturday at 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, beating Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer 6-3, 7-5. The unseeded Tanasugarn successfully defended her 2008 title, winning her fifth career title in seven finals on a grass court surface.
Germany's Benjamin Becker beat Dutchman Raemon Sluiter 7-5, 6-3 Saturday to win the Ordina Open at 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. His first career title was worth $100,000. I really played well (but) I was surprised I started off well too today, Becker said after becoming the first German to reach the Ordina final since Karsten Braasch was the runner-up in 1994.
Unseeded players Raemon Sluiter and Benjamin Becker earned berths Friday in the championship match at the Ordina Open. Sluiter, ranked only 866th in the world, became the lowest-ranked player ever to reach the final of an ATP tournament.
No. 3-seeded David Ferrer lost Thursday in quarterfinal play of the Netherlands' Ordina Open, leaving Rainer Schuettler as the only seeded player in the field. Ferrer, who was also the event's defending titlist, was ousted 6-4, 6-2 by Ivan Navarro.
