Jeff Hamilton scored the lone goal of an overtime shootout on the Leafs' first shot Tuesday, delivering Toronto a 3-2 win over Washington. Toronto substitute goaltender Curtis Joseph stopped a shot by Alex Ovechkin to end the game. Hamilton beat Jose Theodore with a wrist shot to open the shootout. Pavel Kubina scored for Toronto and Phil Oreskovic tallied his first NHL goal for the Maple Leafs, who have won four of their last five games. Toronto's starting goalie Martin Gerber made 34 stops before being ejected late in regulation.

The Maple Leafs let a two-goal lead slip away in the third period and wound up playing in overtime for the fifth straight game (3-0-2). The contest was tied at 2-2 early in the third period when Pavel Kubina and Nik Antropov produced goals that appeared to have wrapped things up for the Maple Leafs.
