THE Merthyr Tydfil AA Kemys water on the River Usk is providing exceptional salmon sport. Derek Carney paid two visits and caught fish of 7lb, 8.5lb, 9lb, 20lb, 23lb and 25lb. Most were returned to the water and all fell for a lobwormon the hook as did a surprise 6lb chub.

SALMON are moving up the River Wye and River Usk following the heavy rain. Fish have been caught from the Chapel House, Gromain, Llanstephan, and Llyn Embeats of the Wye, with the latter providing Ken Tyman with his first ever salmon which was in double figures and returned to the river.

TROUT fishing on the River Trothy has been badly hit by the serious pollution of a tributary at Llantilio Crossenny, near Abergavenny.

FARMERS in Mid Wales fear a key livestock market could be sacrificed to make way for a new community hospital. Powys Local Health Board has identified the town-centre mart in Builth Wells as its preferred location for a new Health and Social Care facility.
