Central Asian countries located at the lower reaches of the rivers Syr Darya and Amu Darya should not suffer a reduction in water supplies if a decision is made to construct a hydropower station at the upper reaches of the rivers, Uzbek President Islom Karimov said at a meeting with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev on 22 April.

Uzbek President Islom Karimov has arrived in Asgabat on an official visit at the invitation of the Turkmen president, Turkmen TV Altyn Asyr channel has reported. The Altyn Asyr TV channel started its 0700 gmt newscast on 18 October with brief information on Karimov's arrival.
