By JIM FREDA Striped bass action has slowed along the beach in Monmouth and Ocean counties despite the fact that there is still plenty of bunker around to trigger the activity. Many boaters put in their time working the pods over with few fish to show for it.
By JIM FREDA The hard south winds of the last couple of weeks have been wreaking havoc on the ocean striped bass fishery. These winds produce an upwelling along the beach that brings colder bottom water to the surface.
By FROM STAFF AND NEWS SERVICE REPORTS Environmental Protection Agency officials say they will resume helicopter flights to test ocean water quality along the Jersey Shore.
By JIM FREDA The bluefish action continues to dominate the catch in Monmouth County waters as fish are present in what seems to be record numbers. Bluefish are ranging in size from 2-12 pounds with the majority of the catch from 4-8 pounds.
By JIM FREDA Some easterly winds in the last several days have made it difficult for boaters, but as soon as conditions change the hot action should resume.
