Joe Mauer drew the first of three straight bases-loaded walks in a four-run fifth inning Friday and Minnesota went on to down Kansas City 9-4. Minnesota won its fourth in a row and moved within two games of division-leading Detroit in the American League Central, adding further drama to a four-game series between the Twins and Tigers next week.
Alberto Callaspo, Miguel Olivo and David DeJesus each hit a three-run homer Tuesday to power Kansas City in an 11-1 rout of Detroit. Callaspo also added a sacrifice fly, as the Royals won for the seventh time in eight games.
Billy Butler had three doubles and drove in a run apiece with two of them Wednesday in leading the Kansas City Royals to a 5-1 win over Detroit. Robinson Tejeda (2-1) struck out eight in throwing six shutout innings.
