The troublesome right hip of New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez will be handled with a conservative approach, MLB.com reported late Thursday. The news followed an ESPN Deportes report earlier in the day where A-Rod's brother, Joe, said during a telephone interview that the third baseman had been scheduled for surgery on a cyst on his right hip next Monday in Colorado, and likely would require a 10-week rehabilitation period. I think we're collectively trying to figure out what's best to do for everybody involved, general manager Brian Cashman said on the team's Web site.
Hip surgery will force New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez out of baseball until May, ESPN Deportes reported Thursday. The cable sports network's Spanish affiliate was told by Rodriguez's brother, Joe Dunand, that the third baseman is scheduled for surgery on a cyst on his right hip Monday in Colorado. Dunand told Enrique Rojas of ESPNdeportes.com during a phone interview that immediate surgery was recommended and that rehabilitation would take about 10 weeks. Rodriguez had planned to play for his native Dominican Republic during the World Baseball Classic, starting with Saturday's contest against the Netherlands. Obviously, he is concerned, said Rodriguez's agent, Scott Boras.
