Trevor Cahill and two relievers combined on a one-hitter Wednesday, bringing Oakland a 4-0 win over the slumping Texas Rangers. Cahill gave up a lead-off single to Marlon Byrd in the second inning and the Rangers managed only two base runners the rest of the way. Scott Hairston's seventh-inning grand slam Sunday lifted the Oakland Athletics to a 5-2 win over the Seattle Mariners. Landon Powell also homered for the A's. The Oakland Athletics beat the Chicago White Sox 3-2 Sunday on a walk-off solo home run by Mark Ellis. Ellis, who went 2-for-3 in the game, connected on a two-out fastball off Bobby Jenks (2-4) who had come in to pitch the ninth. Scott Hairston, Nomar Garciaparra and Rajai Davis each had a pair of hits for the A's. Andrew Bailey (5-3) got the win by pitching the top of the ninth in relief of starter Trevor Cahill, who held the Sox to two runs on six hits in six-plus innings. Scott Podsednik and Jim Thome drove in Chicago's two runs. Oakland tied the contest 2-2 in the eighth.

Alexei Ramirez led off the 10th inning with a home run Friday, giving the Chicago White Sox an 8-7 victory over Oakland. The White Sox blew an early 6-0 lead and had to come back from a run down to force extra innings, then won it on the 14th homer of the year for Ramirez. Chicago stayed within 2 1/2 games of Detroit for the lead in the American League Central after the Tigers blanked Kansas City 1-0 earlier in the evening. Craig Breslow (5-6) came on as the sixth Oakland pitcher of the game and got an 0-2 count on Ramirez to start the 10th.

Oakland's Landon Powell ripped a two-run homer Wednesday in a 6-3 Athletics victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Scott Hairston, Mark Ellis and Adam Kennedy each added an RBI for the A's, who have won four of their last six games. Vin Mazzaro (4-8) got the win, allowing three runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.
