This year's prom queen at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles has announced he'll be wearing a suit instead of a dress at Saturday's dance. But don't be fooled, deep down inside, I am a queen, says Sergio Garcia, the school's first gay male prom queen. Garcia says his run for prom queen originally started out as a stunt but later turned serious when it sparked a dialogue about gender roles on campus, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday. The 18-year-old said he wanted to be part of the school's prom court but not as prom king. He decided to run against a handful of female classmates because vying for prom queen would better suit his personality, Garcia said. Garcia is among the first male students in Southern California to take the title usually reserved for a coed. It just shows how open-minded our class is, says Vanessa Lo, Fairfax senior class president.
