Riverkeeper is up for "Hero" award For years, folks along the Blackwater and Nottoway rivers in Southampton County have known about the good works of Charles "Jeff" Turner, the state's first Riverkeeper, and his dog, Moonpie.

Farmer Bruce Phillips is behind a one-man campaign to make Southampton County the Century Farm capital of Virginia. He started his crusade when he heard that Southampton County was second in the state in the number of Century Farms. Rockingham County is No. 1.
