A toddler who choked on a piece of apple at a Te Awamutu daycare last week has died at Auckland's Starship hospital. He was Kory Lucas Downie-Boyte, 14 months.

The Hamilton family stranded when their car was stolen from outside Auckland's Starship hospital last week were able to take their daughter, Rangimarie Whiu, to surgery today at the hospital to remove a tumour in her left thigh in a new van, lent by a generous but anonymous Hamilton car dealer.

A five-month old Taumarunui baby boy was in hospital today with head injuries after falling off a bed and on to a weightlifting bar. The Westpac Waikato air ambulance went to Taumarunui yesterday afternoon to pick up the child, who received medical treatment en route to Waikato Hospital.
