CALAIS - The St. Croix River Valley Arts Council's film society will present "The English Patient" at 6 p.m. Friday, April 4, at the Holmestead, 527 Main St. The film, based on the novel "The English Patient" by Michael Ondaatje won nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Organizers of the Shanghai Film Festival said they are planning a retrospective of the late British filmmaker Anthony Minghella's work. Minghella is best known for his movies Truly, Madly, Deeply, The English Patient, The Talented Mr. Ripley and Cold Mountain.
