Something huge is happening in the tiny West African country of The Gambia. With a population of about 1.7 million people and a land area of approximately 4,007 square miles, Gambia is the smallest continental African country.
A team led by researcher Rosalinda Gioia at Lancaster University (United Kingdom), has shown that high concentrations of PCBs (between 10 and 360 picograms/m3) are found in some countries in West Africa, such as the Gambia and Ivory Coast, and all along this coast.
Cultural Class: Youngsters at a Stoke-on-Trent school dressed to impress when they staged a multicultural day. The event was held at Eaton Park Primary School, in Bucknall, to raise money for some Gambian teachers and students to visit the school in Arbourfield Drive.
