Busch Gardens Williamsburg said Saturday the Virginia theme park's beloved Big Bad Wolf rollercoaster will close this year. Park general manager John Reilly said in a statement that after 25 years of operation, the Big Bad Wolf will scare and entertain riders of all ages for the last time on Sept.

The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot plans to lay off 30 employees and suspend the print version of its free art and entertainment weekly, the newspaper said Thursday. In addition to terminating the printed version of Port Folio Weekly, effective following next week's edition, the newspaper said it will close Mix, described as a free multicultural monthly that began publication in 2007 and will cease with the March issue. Pilot President and Publisher Maurice Jones said the newspaper will continue producing the arts and entertainment Web site portfolioweekly.com, and will consider reviving an arts and entertainment print weekly when the economy recovers. Jones said both Port Folio Weekly and Mix were losing money. This is not an issue of, Did we have loyal readers of Port Folio and Mix? he said.

Landmark Media Enterprises LLC said it was taking its Norfolk, Va., newspaper The Virginian-Pilot off the market due to the weak economy. Landmark's Vice Chairman Richard Barry III, however, said the newspaper will be offered for sale when the economy improves, The Virginian-Pilot reported Wednesday. Most of the prospective buyers for the newspaper couldn't arrange credit to complete a deal, Barry said. One buyer came close.

Norfolk, Va., daily newspaper the Virginia-Pilot said it was cutting its workforce by 10 percent following a decline in advertising revenues. In an effort to reduce costs, the newspaper's publisher, Maurice Jones, said it wouldshut down its free online newspaper, Link, which aims at 18 to 34-year-olds, jettison the paper's business section, except for Sundays, and reduce the size of its flagship newspaper by 8 percent, dropping around 40 pages a week, the newspaper reported.
